Maternity services

Maternity services are here to help women through their pregnancy journey to ensure that the health needs of mothers-to-be are met.

If you suspect that you might be pregnant, you can find out more about the signs on the NHS website. You can also find out more about taking pregnancy tests.

If your pregnancy test gives a positive reading, it is important that you make an appointment with your GP or maternity unit as soon as possible. At your appointment, your GP or midwife will tell you about your choices for antenatal care.

If you have any non-urgent queries about your pregnancy, you can now use Basildon Hospital's Maternity Direct+ Facebook page. The team of experienced NHS Midwives are on hand to reply between 7am-9pm, 7 days a week. For more information, visit the Maternity Direct+ section of our website.

The local Maternity Unit in Thurrock is at Basildon Hospital. See below for contact details.

Living Well in Pregnancy Guide

The Mid and South Essex Sustainability and Transformation Partnership (STP) has put together a guide to help you through pregnacny. It promotes wellbeing and healthy lifestyles right from the start and what to do when your baby is ill.

Use this resource to learn how to care for your baby at home, when to call your GP, when to discuss with your midwife, health visitor or pharmacist and when to contact the emergency services.
