Caldicott Guardian

A Caldicott Guardian is a senior person who is responsible for protecting the personal and confidential information of patients.

As sharing information is an important tool in providing healthcare, it is important that information is shared appropriately, respecting issues of privacy. The Caldicott Guardian acts as the ‘conscience’ of an organisation, supporting and enabling patient information sharing where appropriate and also advising on the lawful and ethical processing of information.

More information about the role of Caldicott Guardians is available from the Health and Social Care Information Centre
