To help face the challenges to the health and care system in Essex, a new programme has been announced for parts of the county.
The Mid and South Essex Success Regime is one of three national initiatives designed to support the most challenged health and care systems across the country.
The regime in Essex covers hospitals and NHS providers in the south of the county plus the CCGs that commission the services, including Thurrock CCG. The two to three year programme will see hospitals, GP surgeries and other NHS service providers work together to address deep-rooted pressures and secure high quality care.
The overall aim is to improve health and care in areas managing financial deficits or issues of service quality or both.
The Success Regime will bring managerial and financial support to the region. It will help facilitate the developments of local plans that will set out how we will transform care in a sustainable way.
Thurrock CCG will be working with our partners in the hospital trusts and the other CCGs in south and mid Essex to ensure the success of the programme. Key elements of focus include a closer working relationship across the area and improvements of provision and access to urgent and emergency care.

10 year-old quizzes NHS bosses on the STP
As we enter the next phase of consultation on the Sustainability and Transformation Plan for our local NHS offer in mid and south Essex, Healthwatch Essex have asked a 10 year old girl ‘Healthwatch Harriet’ to quiz NHS bosses on what STP means and what is involved.
You can view this and other videos from the Healthwatch Essex website.
Mandy Ansell, Accountable Officer at Thurrock CCG said:
“All of us are guilty of talking about things in ways that make it hard for the person on the street to understand. Well done Healthwatch Essex, we thought this was a great way to explain things simply. We will be holding a public engagement event with Healthwatch Thurrock in March to talk about the re-organising of hospital services in mid and south Essex. Keep following our site for future updates and to book on to our workshops.”
